After battling cancer for a second time, Lisa struggled with her bills. She was behind on her rent and was looking for support to help her get her finances back on track. In May 2023, she found Catholic Charities Dallas and began attending financial coaching sessions through Next Gen Wealth Academy.
Next Gen Wealth Academy helps people thrive by creating a positive relationship with money through coaching, education, and personal development. CCD offers personalized financial coaching, including access to free resources and education, job skills training, and housing counseling.
As she met with her financial coach, Lisa quickly identified that her main goal was to pay off her debt. She had taken out a loan to help her son pay for college. Lisa also had credit card debt, as she relied on them to pay for her household expenses.
During her coaching sessions, Lisa took advantage of as many of the available resources CCD offered. With our support, Lisa learned about credit and how to create a budget. She also received employment coaching to help her grow her small business.
Lisa used her budgeting lessons to develop a plan for her finances that would pay off her debt. In just four months, she has paid off nearly half her debt.
Lisa’s progress and the support she has received have inspired her to set new goals. In addition to paying off her debt, Lisa is saving to purchase her first home with her son. She hopes to improve her English and learn more about technology to promote her business.
