Breakfast with the Most Reverend Bishop Edward J. Burns
As a network of Catholic men, the Archangels are called to come together through unique, social, and philanthropic opportunities within our community – to share our faith with one another, pray and work together, encourage others to join in our mission, and support each other along the way.
The annual Breakfast with the Bishop is one of the many ways the Archangels support Catholic Charities Dallas. Join them for a morning of fellowship and inspiration in support of CCD’s Hunger Services mission, which provides meals to hundreds of thousands of North Texans each year. The event will include breakfast, time for socialization, and remarks from Bishop Edward J. Burns, CCD leadership, and keynote speaker, Jere Thompson, Jr., founder of Ambit Energy and CapRock Communications.

Jere Thompson, Jr.
Guest Speaker
Mr. Thompson co-founded and became CEO of Ambit Energy in 2005. Ambit grew to a billion-dollar company in less than seven years and was named the fastest growing private company in America by Inc. Magazine in 2010. Providing electricity and natural gas services, Ambit expanded into over 100 markets in the U.S., Japan and Canada. Ambit was purchased by Vistra Energy (parent of TXU Energy) in 2019.
Prior to Ambit, Mr. Thompson founded CapRock Communications in 1992 to build fiber optic networks connecting nearly every primary and secondary market in Texas and the surrounding states. CapRock overlaid its fiber network with voice, data and broadband networks just as the Internet arrived. It was named the fastest growing company in Dallas by SMU Cox School of Business in 1997 and was acquired in 2000.
Mr. Thompson has served on the board of Cistercian Preparatory School for over 40 years. He chairs the Hoblitzelle Foundation and the Southwestern Medical Foundation and is a board member of the Homiletics Institute and the Dallas Citizens Council. He was a board member for 12 years and Chair of the North Texas Tollway Authority and its predecessor, the Texas Turnpike Authority.
Mr. Thompson attended Christ the King School and Cistercian Preparatory School. He graduated from Stanford University with a BA in Economics in 1978 and obtained his MBA at The University of Texas in 1982.
Mr. Thompson and his wife, Carolyn, have been married for almost 40 years and have five children and 13 grandchildren.
