DALLAS – June 01, 2021 – Catholic Charities Dallas (CCD) has received a $25,000 grant from local retail electricity provider Reliant in support of its hunger services mission area, which distributes thousands of nutritious meals to families in need each week.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for food has increased as much as 300 percent. In the last year alone, CCD has distributed over 6.1 million meals to 151,000 families. CCD purchased a third mobile community pantry and a custom refrigerated box truck in late 2020 to support expanded food distribution efforts across the nine-county region it serves.

“Reliant’s donation will allow us to continue to sustain the large-scale food distribution operations we have adopted since the beginning of the pandemic,” said Dave Woodyard, President/CEO of CCD. “While we wish the number of North Texas families going hungry each day was diminishing, we will continue to answer the call for all in need, thanks to the generosity of our partners.”

CCD distributes thousands of pounds of food throughout North Texas every week, with each of its three mobile community pantries capable of serving 30 sites per month. In addition, CCD operates three, fixed food pantries, two in Dallas and one in Lancaster.

“At Reliant, supporting our neighbors is part of who we are, and we’re honored to help Catholic Charities Dallas in their mission to serve the most vulnerable,” said Andrea Russell, vice president of Reliant. “For someone facing hunger, the promise of a nutritious meal can be a catalyst for change in their lives, so the work of nonprofits like CCD is vital to those in need within our community.”
