August 2023

One of our largest growing missions is our Hunger Services mission, which works to alleviate hunger and food insecurity in our community.

Our Hunger Services team works in multiple ways, including operating 4 fixed food pantries which allow our clients to receive food at a location that is convenient, safe, and clean. Some locations include client-choice options which are incredibly special because that’s where our clients can actually “shop” for their own groceries and select specific foods that work for their family.

I’m thrilled to share that our newest client-choice food pantry at St. Jude Park Central is on track to open by the end of the year, and we estimate that we’ll serve close to 1,000 families annually at that location alone.

In addition to the fixed food pantries, we are proud to operate 5 refrigerated mobile community pantries. Our 5 trucks travel to 98 different pantry sites each month and bring fresh food and pantry staples to all nine counties of the Diocese of Dallas. Several sites receive multiple monthly visits for a total of 132 food drops per month.

Our model of one truck, one driver, thousands served happens because of an incredible team and the grace of many, many volunteers. Together, we provided over 7 million meals last fiscal year.

As you know, hunger doesn’t discriminate. Many families are one paycheck away from not being able to put food on the table. That’s why it’s so important we continue to reach out to new communities and new people. I encourage you to support our hunger mission by making a gift to lift up others and provide healthy and nutritious food to those in need.

  • A gift of $100 will provide 520 meals for those in need
  • A gift of $500 will cover preventative maintenance for one of our mobile community pantries
  • A gift of $1,000 will fuel one of our mobile community pantries for a month

Additional opportunities can be found in the mission impact sheet included below.

Of course, there are other ways to support our hunger mission. Please join us on October 5th for our annual Breakfast with the Bishop, hosted by the Archangels Men’s Network. This year, our guest speaker is John Stankey, CEO of AT&T. All proceeds from the event will benefit our hunger mission. For additional information or to reserve a table, please visit ccdallas.org/breakfast.

Another way to support the hunger mission is by adding Catholic Charities to your estate plan. To help future generations, name CCD as a beneficiary of your will, trust, retirement account, or insurance policy. When you include us in your estate plans, you will become a member of our Guardian Angel Society. Please contact me if you would like to learn more about our planned giving options. I’d love to help!

As always, on behalf of the CCD team and the clients we serve, THANK YOU! We are so grateful for your continued support. We can serve more, support more, and do more because of you. I hope to hear from you soon! Until then, take care and God Bless.
